TN: Strike against corporate entry into veg market
Tiruchirapalli, Mar 23: The vegetable and fruit shops in the city remain closed this morning, following the strike call given by the Tamil Nadu Traders Federation and other trader's federations to protest the entry of corporate groups into the retail vegetable and fruit market.
The strike call evoked a good respose as major centres like Gandhi Market, Puthur, Subramanyapuram, Eda Street, Sri Rangam, Teppakkulam, Woraiyur and Chinthamani markets remained closed since morning.
There was no loading/unloading of vegetables and fruits here and elsewhere in the district.
The Gandhi Market, considered to be the largest in the state, with over 1000 permanent shops, wore a deserted look following the strike.
