Outsource production of simple drugs, says Kamat
Manipal (Karnataka), Mar 23: Renowned journalist and Prasar Bharti Chairman M V Kamat today called upon the pharmaceutical companies to outsource production of drugs like ointments, tincture and other medicines having simple formulae.
Presiding over the three-day third 'Namma Angadi' (Our Shop), the exhibition-cum-sale of handicrafts jointly organised by Namma Bhoomi, a rural programme of NGO Concern for Working Children (CWC) and students of the Manipal Institute of Communication (MIC) here, he said such outsourcing would create job opportunities for rural units like CWC.
There was a need for governmental and non-governmental agencies to become sensitive to the fellow countrymen, he said, adding that the journalism students could also contribute in these efforts.
Products on sale included cotton dress materials, bags, ethnic terracota jewellery and products made from natural raw materials.
The proceeds of the sale would be given to Namma Bhoomi, an NGO from Kundapura in Udupi district which trained rural children in making handicrafts, decorative items and knick-knacks, besides training in vocational skills like weaving, tailoring and pottery. Namma Angadi provided a platform for the rural artisans and craftsmen to showcase their products.
