AP to press Tribunal to halt projects on Krishna

Hyderabad, Mar 23: The Andhra Pradesh Government will fight before the new Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal the construction of illegal projects by the upper riparian state of Karnataka across Krishna river and its tributaries, Major Irrigation Minister P Lakshmaiah informed the State Assembly today.

The Tribunal had disposed of the state's interim application to desist Karnataka from constructing 'illegal' projects without providing relief to the lower riparian state and the state government had filed clarification which was likely to come up before the Tribunal, he said replying to D Rajasekhar (Cong).

Karnataka had taken up Badra Lift Irrigation Project, across the Badra river, as part of the second phase of the upper Bhadra project, he informed, adding that tailend areas in the state would be affected because of this.

Putting supplementary questions, TDP Legislature Party Deputy Leader T Devender Goud criticised the Government for not taking effective steps to halt the 'illegal' projects by Karnataka across Krishna river and its tributaries.
