WB assembly, opposition demand CM's resignation
Kolkata, Mar 22: The West Bengal assembly was adjourned for 75 minutes today as a pandemonium was let loose by the Opposition over the Nandigram issue.
As soon as the house sat for the question hour, the opposition members started shouting making inaudible the answer by Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.
Dressed in black robes, Trinamool Congress members cried hoarse demanding the chief minister's resignation while the Congress members shouted slogans making a similar demand.
Even though speaker Hasim Abdul Halim tried to continue with the procedings it became impossible with the uproar refusing to die down. The Trinamool members paraded the floor in a procession holding posters decrying the 'brutal' killing of villagers in the March 14 incident.
The speaker then adjourned the session till 1230hrs and left the house.
The beligerent Trinamool members then shouted slogans in the assembly lobby. A table was made as martyr's alter with a poster paying tribute to those killed in Nandigram.
An earthen lamp was lit and garlands were placed as a token mark of respect to the victim.
Leader of the opposition Partho Chatterjee said the party would continue protest till the chief minister resigned owning responsibility for the police firing in Nandigram.
