Port Blair, Mar 22 (UNI) The Hati Tapu Jetty of Andaman islands, damaged in the 2004 tsunami, collapsed today.

Police said no one was injured.

The jetty had gone through extensive repair after the tsunami, for which the Andaman and Nicobar Administration had spent lakhs of rupees. The repair work was carried out by the Andaman Lakhadweep Harbour Works (ALHW).

''The incident took place at 0615 hours when a ferry was going to port at the jetty. There is no report of anybody getting injured,'' police said.

Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Bhopinder Singh, along with the engineers of ALHW had also inspected the jetty after getting information.

However, engineer's of ALHW told Mr Singh that the jetty might have collapsed because of some changes in underwater surface after the tsunami. The AHLW will be call experts from IIT to ascertain this.
