Ruckus over ''water sharing'' in Rajasthan Assembly
Jaipur, March 22 (UNI) Rajasthan Irrigation Minister Sanwar Lal Jat today told the Vidhan Sabha that the state was fully capable of utilising its alloted water share from Punjab under the Ravi-Beas River Water Agreement of 1981.
His remark came amid the din created by the legislators over the allotment of water for Rajasthan from Punjab.
During the Question Hour, Congress legislator C P Joshi raised the issue and challenged the legislators of the ruling party to pass a proposal demanding Rajasthan's due share of water from Punjab.
He said the BJP legislators in Punjab should resign if the water sharing issue failed to materialised.
On this, the legislators started shouting and charged each other with not doing enough for the welfare of the state.
He urged all the legislators to appeal to the Centre to raise the issue with the Punjab government.
The state government has been writing letters to the Centre for the last three years and making all possible efforts to bring water to the state, Mr Jat said.
