Raids in MDMK functionary lodges

Chennai, Mar 22 (UNI) Following the arrest of DMK functionary Barkath and MDMK organising secretary Seemar Basheer a few days ago, the 'Q' branch police today conducted raids in lodges belonging to the MDMK functionaris.

The duo were arrested on charges of their alleged involvement in hawala transactions for the LTTE.

The raids were conducted in four lodges of the MDMK activist at Mannadi area in north Chennai.

Over 30 Sri Lankan Tamils who were staying in the hotel were interrogated during the raid. Investigations revealed that they were here for jobs purposes.

Most of them were found to be possessing goods like cardamom, pepper and saree materials from Sri Lanka for business prospects.
