Maoist arrested in train hijack case

Jamshedpur, Mar 22 (UNI) The Tatanagar railway police today arrested a Maoist in connection with the hijacking of Tatanagar-Kharagpur passenger train from Jamboni police station near West Bengal- Jharkhand border.

Tatanagar Railway Superintendent of Police Mrityunjay Kumar said the naxalite, Deepak Patro alias Deepa, was involved in the hijacking incident in which about 30 ultras detained the passenger train near Chakulia station for several hours on December 10 last year and snatched two rifles from the RPF jawans.

Mr Kumar said Patro was nabbed following a tip off by the chief accused in the case Chittoranjan Mahto, who had been arrested from Binpur in West Midnapore district of West Bengal recently.

Another accused Chunka Tudu was still absconding, Mr Kumar said adding that a joint operation with the West Bengal police had been launched to nab the culprits.
