IT Dept cracks down on Coimbatore region
Coimbatore, Mar 22 (UNI) Regional Income Tax Department Chief Commissioner O P Sachan today said the region comprising Coimbatore, Erode and Nilgiris districts had so far collected Rs 1152 crore against the target of Rs 1437 crore.
Addressing a press conference here, he said the depatment had taken various steps to achieve the targets for the current fiscal.
There was considerable improvement in voluntary tax payments and searches and surveys were bringing in good results.
He said during the year, 53 surveys were conducted in this region, which resulted in unearthing an undisclosed income of Rs 48.87 crore.
The tax amount on this amount was about Rs 17 crore, out of which Rs 7.89 crore was collected so far.
He said a penalty of Rs 5,000 would be levied for non-filing of returns as per the provisions of section 271 F of income tax act.
