Shillong, Mar 22: Newly appointed Meghalaya's Director General of Police Bijon K Dey Sawain said insurgency is no longer a 'matter of concern' as it was five years back.

'' The situation has improved with the surrender of many Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council cadres and ceasefire with the A'chik National Volunteers' Council,'' Mr Sawain told reporters here yesterday after taking over from William Richmond Marbaniang.

Mr Sawain took over from Mr Marbaniang yesterday following an alleged murder in the latter's residence on March seven.

'' There are signs of insurgent groups agreeing for peace talks and I am confident these outfits surrender and join the mainstream,'' he added.

Lauding the state police for tackling militancy in the state, he said the department had improved in all fronts including weapons, mobility, communication, setting up of beat houses and police stations adding that such improvements ahould be an ongoing process.

Talking about strategies to check cyber crimes, Mr Sawain said that the crime had not taken a serious proportion in the state so far but the state police is all prepared to face any such future threat.
