Former Madras varsity VC surrenders in dowry death case

Chennai, Mar 22 (UNI) Former Madras University Vice Chancellor P T Manoharan and two of his family members today surrendered before a city court in compliance with a Supreme Court directive in connection with a dowry harassment case.

Soon after their surrender Fifth Additional Sessions Judge Ramasamy remanded them in judicial custody.

The bail plea filed by the accused will be taken up tomorrow.

Manoharan's son Navin was arrested after his wife Madhu committed suicide on July 1 allegedly due to dowry harassment.

Navin was since released on ball.

Later, that Manoharan, his wife and daughter secured anticipatory bail from Madras High court apprehending arrest.

Madhu's brother filed an SLP in the apex court challenging the High Court order granting bail and the Supreme court on February 23 cancelled bail and directed them to surrender before the court concerned within four weeks.

In tune with the Supreme Court order, they surrendered today.
