Election schedule annouced to Mara ADC in Mizoram

Aizawl, March 22 (UNI) Election to 23 seats of Mara Autonomous District Council in Mizoram is scheduled to be held on May 3 by using a special electoral roll.

Official release here today said while polling will be held on May three, counting will begin on May seven and filing of nomination for chairman will be held on May nine and formation of the executive council will take place on May eleven.

Mzoram Governor Lt Gen (Retd) M M Lakhera dissolved the Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC) last month with the court order, which had ruled that the nominated members of the council have no voting rights in confidence motion.

Earlier, a Mizo National Front (MNF) party nominated member had moved Guwahati High Court against the Governor's ruling, but the High Court upheld the Governor's decision nullifying MNF council's majority.
