EC begins enquiry into irregularities in LC poll

Hyderabad, Mar 22 (UNI) Chief Electoral Officers of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka Naresh Gupta and R Ramaseshan today began an inquiry into alleged violation of secrecy in the Legislative Council election from the Local Authority Constitutency held on March 17 in Andhra Pradesh.

The opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and ruling Congress members submitted petitions to the committee. The TDP gave evidence and video clippings of Congressmen who allegedly violated secrecy.

Denying TDP charges, the Congress gave explanations about their leaders, who allegedly cast open ballots, to the officials. The latter would visit Guntur, Prakasam, Nellore, Chittoor, Medak, Nalgonda, Khammam, Mahabubnagar, Srikakulam and East Godavari.

All political party representatives and others could meet them at the respective districts, according to an official release today.
