Dubai: Customs seize TV receivers from passengers
Dubai, March 22: Dubai customs officials are confiscating digital television receivers from passengers coming from India.
Last week alone they had taken away hundreds of receivers, whose local demand has gone up due to World Cup cricket matches, media reports said.
There is brisk sale of direct to home receivers among people from the Indian subcontinent as they allow access to programmes at a fraction of the cost charged by UAE's E-vision and Pehla cable service providers.
Known as Dish TV, the service offers more than 150 prime television channels for less than Rs 300 per month. The E-Pehla Gold offered by E-vision Cable TV and Multimedia Company currently charges Rs 2480 for a similar service.
