Cotton seed: Govt assures probe into overcharging

Bhopal, Mar 22 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh government today announced in the state Assembly that specific complaints regarding the overcharging on BT cotton seeds from farmers will be inquired into.

Agriculture Minister Choudhary Chandrabhan made this announcement while replying to a call attention notice moved by Mr Ravindra Mahajan (NCP), who alleged the seed companies in collusion with traders and officials had charged excess rate from the farmers and the credit note was issued to the traders for the excess amount charged.

Mr Mahajan said the cotton seed companies sold 450 gram packet at Rs 750. To ensure the interests of farmers, the governments of Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra had issued directives to return the excess amount charged from farmers, but no such action was taken in Madhya Pradesh.
