CM assures twin firing report within 6 months

Shillong, Mar 22 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief Minister D D Lapang today assured the Assembly that the inquiry reports on twin police firing incident in Garo Hills will be placed in the House within six months.

Mr Lapang, replying to a cut-motion moved by NCP leader E K Sangma criticising the government for delaying in tabling the reports, said the delay was caused due to various unavoidable reasons and extension sought by the enquiry commission for its completion.

He said the government had received the report and would examine before placing it in the House.

Negating the Opposition's charges that the recent change of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader was an intention to tamper with the report, Mr Lapang said it had nothing to do with change of leadership in the state.

Two separate judicial inquiry commission headed by Justice J N Choudhuri and Williamnagar by Justice D N Baruah was constituted to probe the incidents of September 30 at Tura where nine peeple were killed and several injured in police firing over the issue of shifting of MBOSE headquarters from Tura to Shillong.

The commission was constituted to ascertain the facts which led to police firing.

Members from both treasury and Opposition bench took part in the cut motion discussion.
