Another CRPF jawan commits suicide in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 22: Another Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan committed suicide despite the introduction of yoga and Art of living classes to help security forces personnel, engaged in counter insurgency operations, to come out of stress.

A CRPF spokespersons said a jawan, identified as S S Adey of 122 batallion, shot himself with his service weapon at Peerbagh camp this morning at 0815 hrs.

He was immediately shifted to the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) at Soura where he died at 0915 hrs.

Adey, a resident of Latoor, Maharashtra, had recently returned after completing his leave on March 5.

It was not immediately known why the jawan took this extreme step, the spokesperson said.

Official sources said introduction of yoga and the Art of Living classes to help security force personnel come out of stress had so far failed.

At least 12 security personnel, including some officers, were killed by their colleagues in the Valley during the past six months.

On March 20, an army jawan shot dead his colleague in an army camp in north Kashmir.

A soldier was recently awarded death by a court martial for killing Lt Colonel Saket Sexana at Harwan camp.

According to a survey, mental stress and family disputes are the main reasons which compel security force personnel to take such extreme steps.
