A Subba Rao is no more

Chennai, Mar 22 (UNI) Well-known Telugu and Hindi film producer A Subba Rao died at the Corporate Apollo Hospitals here today following prolonged illness.

He was 86. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and one son.

According to his family sources, Subba Rao, had been suffering from a kidney ailment and had been receiving medical treatment at the hospital.

Subba Rao had produced 25 films, among which '' Pempudu Koduku'' his debut film in 1953, 'Ilarikam (1959), ''Kulagothralu'' (1962), ''Punarjanma'' (1963), ''Manushulu Mamatalu'' (1965), ''Bharya Biddalu'' (1972), all starring yesteryears matinee idol A Nageswara Rao, ''Ardhangi'' and Alumagalu(1977) and ''Police Brothers'' (1992) were big hits at the box office. His last film was ''Kumbakkonam Gopal'' in Tamil in 1998. He had introduced former actress -turned politician J Jayalalithaa in Telugu films in ''Manushulu Mamatalu''.

Both ''Kulagothralu'' and ''Bharya Biddalu'' won national awards for him.

His popular Hindi films included ''Hum Rahi'',''Sabhash Moti'' (1986) and ''Muqabla''(1993),''Hathkari'' (1995).

Mr A Nageswara Rao and Mr V B Rajendra Prasad flew in from Hyderabad to pay their respects to Subba Rao while other prominent Telugu film personalities who condoled the death included actress Prabha, South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce Secretary and well-known producer Katragadda Prasad and KRG.

The funeral was held in the evening.
