Vijay Mallya aspires launching crusade over Ganga pollution

Varanasi, Mar 21 (UNI) Noting that not enough had been done in Parliament over Ganga pollution issue, liquor baron and Rajya Sabha member Vijay Mallya today said he aspired leading a crusade to purge the sacred river by parliamentarians.

''The matter of Ganga pollution has been raised only a few times in Parliament, but enough is yet to be done by MPs over the crucial environmental issue which has an equal bearing on our religious sentiments,'' Dr Mallya said while interacting with newspersons here.

In the city with Formula One racer Ralf Schumacher to visit the 'Go Ahead Children Home' being run for impoverished kids by World Hope Award Winner Stella Deetjen, Dr Mallya said ''I now want to spearhead a crusade by parliamentarians to purge the sacred Ganga river.'' The businessman, who successfully bid for the legendary sword of Mysore king Tipu Sultan in London in September 2003, said ''I want to be part of any project to beautify the ancient city which has an unparellel charm in the world.'' The city, especially its majestic Ganga ghats, needs urgent beutification and come any attempts in this direction ''I will like to be its part,'' he added.

The high flying Bangalorian, who launched Kingfisher Airlines in 2005 and was elected to the RS in 2000, however, steered clear of saying anything about politics in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh.
