Chandigarh, Mar 21 (UNI) The Punjab Government will set up three modern trauma care centres, one each in the civil hospitals at Amritsar, Pathankot and Jalandhar.

This was disclosed here today by Health Minister Laxmi Kanta Chawla while addressing senior health administrators, civil surgeons and programmes officers of the health department here today.

The Minister said that Rs 4.50 crore has already been released by the central government for setting up these fully equipped trauma care centres. These centres would provide 24-hour better care for accidental cases along the national highways, she said.

She further said each of these centres would be equipped with latest diagnostic and treatment facilities at a cost of Rs 1.50 crore. Two ambulances at each trauma centre would be added in due course, she said.

Expressing concern over the false reporting in medico-legal cases, Ms Chawla said any irregularity in conducting such cases would be viewed very seriously. Curbing the practice of female foeticide would be among the top priorites, she added.
