PM to inaugurate World Water Day tomorrow
New Delhi, Mar 21 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will inaugurate the World Water Day tomorrow.
Various Ministries, including Water Resources, Rural Development and Social Justice and Empowerment, besides the Ministry of Power in association with the United Nations would organise the event.
The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution on December 22 1992 by which March 22 of each year, starting from 1993, was declared World Day for Water. The event will be guided by the upcoming water decade which has the theme 'Water for Life' as proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in its resolution in December 2003.
The objective was to set a higher focus on water-related issues, and ensuring participation of women in water-related development efforts. It was also aimed at furthering cooperation at all levels to achieve the target.
In Delhi the Water Resources Ministry has organised series of functions to sensitise society towards the concept of conservation and management of both surface and ground water.
Union Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz will be the Chief Guest at the Prize Distribution function and a painting and slogan writing competititon for school children. He will also deliver a key note address at the UNESCO function.
