NCP's Nanaso Gath elected as Kolhapur Zilla Paraishad president
Kolhapur, Mar 21 (UNI) Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate Nanaso Gath was today declared elected as the President of the Kolhapur Zilla Parishad.
In a straight contest, Nanaso Gath defeated Congress candidate Vasant Khade by seven votes. Mr Gath polled 38 votes while Mr Khade got 31 votes in the 69-member House.
The NCP has 18 members in the new House, supported by Jansurajya Party (8 members), five members of Chandgad Tehsil Local Front, Kagal Tehsil Local Front (3 members), Peasant and Workers Party (PWP) - 2 members and two independents.
The NCP-Jansurajya Party alliance also won the Vice-President's election in which Jansurajya Party candidate Bharat Patil defeated Congress nominee Nana Dharma Kamble by seven votes.
Despite the Congress being the single largest party with 25 members in the House, it failed to retain power in the Zilla Parishad.
