Mumbai, Mar 21 (UNI) Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), ally of the Congress in the ruling Democratic Front (DF) government in Maharashtra, has joined hands with the Shiv Sena to take control of the Amravati Zilla Parishad of Vidarbha region.

NCP has bagged the ZP president's post while the Vice President's post has gone to the Sena. The development comes close on the heels of the two parties coming together for the Pune Mayoral elections recently.

The NCP has blamed the non-co-operation of the Congress for the NCP-Sena alliance.

NCP general secretary Gurunath Kulkarni said in alliance could materialise due to local political situation. ''the elected members of the ZP belonging to NCP were divided in their opinion about the alliance with the Congress and there was no positive response from the Congress to the group in NCP favouring a tie-up with it,''Mr Kulkarni added.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena spokesperson Neelam Gorhe said Shiv Sena-BJP had backed the NCP candidates for the president and vice president's post in Gadchiroli isolating the Congress in the district.

The elections to 27 ZPs took place on March 11 and Congress emerged as the single largest party winning 487 seats followed by NCP with 480 seats.
