MP formers to get Rs 5,000 for carts

Bhopal, Mar 21 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh government will grant Rs 5,000 each to farmers for purchasing bullock-carts, Agriculture Minister Chaudhry Chandrabhan Singh informed the Assembly today.

Replying to the debate on budgetary demands for his Department, he said, ''an agriculture university will be set up through private-sector participation.'' Besioes, a long-term policy for pulses and oilseeds has been drafted and forwarded to the Centre for approval, he added.

Initiating the debate, Mr Satyadev Katare (Congress) alleged that 1,250 indebted peasants committed suicide over the past three years and the government should bow out of office.

Budgetary demands to the tune of Rs 371 crore were eventually passed by voice vote. Demands of Rs 226 crore were passed for the Animal Husbandry Department.
