Bangalore, Mar 21: In another land mark stride in its computerisation drive, the Karnataka High Court will become WI-fi (wireless field) enabled from Wednesday onwards.

The Karnataka High Court, considered a pioneer in computerisation, will have another feather to its cap, with it becoming wi-fi (wireless field) enabled from Wednesday onwards. Initiated by 18 senior advocates in association with the Advocates' Association and WeP peripherals, the service is to be inaugurated by Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph.

Senior counsel M R Naik and advocate Sridhar Hiremath told Deccan Herald an internet centre with printing facility will also be set up. The internet parlour would provide information about the judiciary and deal mainly with case laws and verdicts of all courts. The initiative has been taken to help junior advocates who do not have easy access to decisions of other courts, they added.

If a laptop is wi-fi enabled, then it can have wireless access to the internet. An official of WeP Peripherals said the system can cover a distance of 100 metres from the point at which the switch has been installed.

Welcoming the initiative, lawyers said searching for decisions would be easier now. Says Mahesh B S, advocate, " I can bring along my laptop, search for a decision and draft petitions in the High Court itself." Mr Hiremath said users would have to pay a nominal charge, a decision on which would be taken after the inauguration.
