HC reserves order on PIL regarding sugarcane purchase

Allahabad, Mar 21 (UNI) Allahabad High Court today reserved its order in a writ petition seeking direction on the respondents to ensure the purchase of remaining sugarcane produced by the petitioners.

The petitioners had also prayed to ensure the payment of cane prices to them according to law.

A bench comprising Justices Anjani Kumar and Dilip Gupta passed this order on a writ petition filed by Tahir Hasan and others of district Saharanpur.

The petitioners said in Uttar Pradesh, the cane growners are bound to supply cane to the sugar factory in whose favour the reservation/assignment orders are passed by the cane commissioner.

The petitioners' area was reserved for M/s Daya Sugar Ltd, Saharanpur by the cane commissioner on October 12, 2006, but the mill is not purchasing sugarcane from cane growers, which according to the petitioner is illegal and contrary to the laws.
