CM condemns attack on journalist
Hyderabad, Mar 21 (UNI) Condemning the attack on the Editor of a Urdu daily in the city late last night, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara reddy today assured the Assembly that the government was taking all steps to bring the culprits to book.
Intervening after Speaker K R Suresh Reddy disallowed an adjournment motion notice given by the TDP and CPI, the Chief Minister informed the House that the police had already arrested three of the five assailants.
The government would get the issue thoroughly inquired and do justice to the affected person, he said.
The government was committed to press freedom, he said adding the ''it is repulsive to think that filth had been thrown at the Editor of the Daily. After his car was waylaid by placing a motorcycle on its way.
Making a reference to the alleged attack on a reporter and a photographer of another Urdu Daily which was sought to be raised by AIMIM through another adjournment motion, Dr Reddy said he would hold a detailed inquiry into the issue and promised to take appropriate action.
The Opposition party members stalled the proceedings for more than 20 minutes over the issue.
