Centre sanctions Rs 361 crore to Rajasthan under JLNURM

New Delhi, Mar 21 (UNI) The Central Sanctioning Committee of Union Housing and Urban Development Ministry has sanctioned Rs 361 crore to Rajasthan for constructing 20,000 new houses to replace slums in seven cities of the State under Jawahar Lal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission.

The task of constructing new houses and other community services would strengthen the efforts of making Rajasthan a ''Slum Free State'' in the next three years, according to Rajasthan's Minister of State for Urban Development Pratap Singh Singhvi.

The sanctioned amount for constructing houses and community services include Jaipur (Rs 169 crore), Ajmer-Pushkar (Rs 107 crore), Kota (Rs 21 crore), Pali (Rs 18 crore), Jhalawar (Rs 5 crore), Hanumangarh (Rs 22 crore) and Bhilwara (Rs 19 Crore).

The Centre would provide 50 per cent subsidy for Jaipur City and 80 per cent subsidy for rest of cities. The benefitted persons shall have to provide only 10 to 12 per cent amount and the remaining amount would be contriboted by State Government and Local Bodies.

In Jaipur City, 12,180 houses will be constructed in 17 slum areas under the scheme. The triple storied houses would contain two rooms, kitchen, toilet with additional facilities of drinking water, sewerage, community hall, park and school.

The Minister said in Ajmer-Pushkar cities besides making 6,000 new houses, the work of renovation would also be undertaken.

Likewise, 2,000 new houses in Pali, 800 in Bhilwara would also be built. In other cities, the efforts of eradicating slum problem are being undertaken.

Dr Singh further informed that the job of constructing 5,000 houses in 15 cities of Rajasthan costing Rs 60 crore are on progress on a large scale.
