BJP demands judicial inquiry into forced conversions

Hyderabad, Mar 21 (UNI) BJP floor leader G Kishan Reddy today demanded a judicial inquiry into alleged forced conversion to Christianity in the Padmavathi Women's University in Tirupati.

Addressing a press meet soon after being suspended from the house for a day for stalling proceedings demanding an immediate discussion on the matter, he demanded action against Vice-Chancellor Veena Noble Das and Warden Vayalet, who were allegedly responsible for the conversions.

He alleged the University Vice-Chancellor had hurt the sentiments of Hindus by forcing conversions. The Vice-Chancellor was responsible for the recent suicide by an M Sc student who had allegedly been forcibly converted by her, he said.

Mr Reddy also took objection to nuns sleeping in the same place as students in university hostels. The Vice-Chancellor and the warden should be prosecuted immediately, he said.

The BJP leader said instead of taking action against the Vice-Chancellor, the government was planning to nominate her to the Legislative Council under pressure from the Congress high command and the BJP would oppose any such move.

He alleged that conversions to Christianity have been on the rise for the last three years in the state and huge foreign funds were being spent for constructing churches and forcing conversions in every village. The State government had not taken any measures to stop forced conversions in the state, Mr Reddy said.
