APUWJ asks govt to protect scribes from attacks

Hyderabad, Mar 21 (UNI) Strongly condemning the attack on 'Sisayat' Urdu daily Editor Zahid Ali Khan by miscreants last night, the Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) today demanded the state government to take action against the perpetrators.

According to a press release here, APUWJ President K Amarnath said a union delegation met Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and urged him to take immediate steps to protect journalists from attacks, besides protecting freedom of the press.

Condemning the attack on a reporter and a photographer of 'Ittemad' daily who went to cover the attack on Zahid Ali Khan, the union called on the journalists to raise their voice against the attacks on journalists by organising demonstrations and dharnas in all districts.
