AIADMK men go on fast; want gazette notification

Chennai, Mar 21: The opposition AIADMK in Tamil Nadu today organised a statewide fast, barring Chennai, demanding immediate gazette notification of the final award of Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.

The protest fast was also to condemn the Centre and the State Government for ''failing'' to initiate steps for the implementation of the final award.

Thousands of party cadre, functionaries and representatives of farmers organisations took part in the more in all district headquarters.

AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa went on an eight-hour fast near Valluvar Kottam here on Sunday, demanding the Centre notify the award.

While party Presidium Chairman E Madhusudanan led the hunger strike in Tiruvannamalai, senior leader and Election Wing secretary O Panneerselvam led the protest in Madurai.

In Salem, more than 1,000 AIADMK workers took part in the fast inaugurated by party headquarters Secretary K A Sengottaiyan in front of the Collectorate.
