108-member Campaign Committee formed for Apr 5 MCD elections
New Delhi, Mar 21 (UNI) All India Congress Committee General Secretary and Incharge of Delhi Affairs Ashok Gehlot today announced that a 108-member Campaign Committee will oversee the party's electioneering in the run up to the forthcoming Municipal Corporation of Delhi polls.
The committee, chaired by Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Ram Babu Sharma, would include Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, her cabinet colleagues, local MPs and some MLAs, Delhi Mayor, Leader of MCD House and Delhi University Students Union President.
DPCC also set up a Media Committee, chaired by MLA S C Vats, members of which were only authorised to make statements on behalf of the party.
Reacting to state BJP's statement on the Congress denying tickets to as many as 46 of its sitting councillors, Mr Sharma said the BJP should first come out with a statement clarifying why as many as nine sitting BJP councillors were not given tickets this time.
''The BJP leaders should rise above petty politics and follow the principles of clean politics for the welfare of the people of Delhi,'' he added.
Elections to the 272-member MCD House, which are evoking as much as interest as the Mumbai municipal polls, would be held on April 5.
