Yeswantpur-Guwahati Express passengers robbed

Kolar Gold Fields, Karnataka, Mar 20 (UNI) A six-member gang has robbed passengers of the Yeswantpur-Guhawati Gorakhpur Express of gold ornaments and cash, worth about Rs 1.5 lakhs, last night.

According to Railway sources, the gang threatened the passengers at about 0100 hrs when the passengers were fast asleep and looted the valuables. They then pulled the chain at Varadapura, bordering Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, and made good their escape with the booty.

The gang members, in between 25 to 30 years, were conversing in Kannada, Urdu, Telugu and Hindi.

Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials visited the spot.

On receiving a complaint from two passengers hailing from Chennai, a three-member police team, headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Krishnappa, left here for Chennai for further investigation.
