Russia condemns executions in Iraq : Lavrov

Moscow, Mar 20 (UNI) Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov today said Russia strongly condemned the execution of former Iraqi vice president Taha Yassin Ramadan today.

"Our attitude is the same as the one we had toward the previous executions," Lavrov told reporters, commenting on Ramadan's execution on the fourth anniversary of the start of US-led war in Iraq.

"We are certain that it will not add anything positive to the efforts that are being taken in order to attain settlement in the country," Lavrov said.

He added it was necessary to seek national reconciliation and accord in Iraq, and not make affected gestures that were demonstrated by the execution of a member of the Saddam Hussein government.

"This country urgently needs national reconciliation, it is a plan put forward by the Iraqi Prime Minister, a plan that had long been named a key to the settlement of the country's problems," he stressed.
