Rehabilitation Commissioner asked to file affidavit

Bangalore, Mar 20 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today directed the Commissioner of Rehabilitation and Resettlement to file an affidavit on the steps taken for the rehabilitation of those displaced by the Upper Krishna Project-II of Bagalkot.

Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Mr Justice B S Patil issued the direction, admitting a public interest litigation, filed by Punarvasati and Vikasa Samudaya, an organisation striving for the rehabilitation of the displaced families.

The petitioner contended that the respondent authorities were only relocating those displaced by the project and not rehabilitating them as per the provisions of the Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act.
