Private Schools To Provide 20 % Free Seats

New Delhi, Mar 20 (UNI) Unaided private schools allotted land by government agencies are to provide at least 20 per cent free seats to children from economically weaker sections, Parliament was informed today.

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Human Resource Development M A A Fatmi said that was notified by the Delhi government's Education Directorate two months ago.

A previous order of April 27, 2004 for 20 per cent freeship for children of economically weaker sections in unaided private schools was challenged before the Delhi High Court.

On the basis of a new direction from the High Court, Fatmi said the Directorate issued a fresh notification dated January 25 for provision of at least 20 per cent free seats.

Fatmi added that the matter is sub judice.
