PM to inaugurate World Water Day on March 22

New Delhi, Mar 20 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will inaugurate the World Water Day on March 22 to be organised by various Ministries including Water Resources, Rural Development and Social Justice and Empowerment, besides the Ministry of Power in association with the United Nations.

The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution on December 22 1992 by which March 22 of each year starting from 1993 was declared World Day for Water. The event will be guided by the upcoming water decade which has the theme 'Water for Life' as proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in its resolution in December 2003.

The theme was aimed at seting the world's goals on a greater focus on water-related issues, while striving hard to ensure the participation of women in water-related development efforts and further cooperation at all levels to achieve water-related goals.
