Over 3,600 posts sanctioned to deal with illegal migration
New Delhi, Mar 20 (UNI) The Centre has sanctioned 3,656 posts in various ranks under the Prevention of Infiltration of Foreigners/Mobile Task Force (PIF/MTF) Schemes in Asom, Meghalaya, West Bengal and Tripura to detect, prosecute and deport illegal migrants, the Lok Sabha was informed today.
Further, these states have been empowered under Section 3(2) (c) of the Foreigners Act, 1946 to detect and deport foreign nationals illegally staying in India, Minister of State for Home S Regupathy said in a written reply.
There are reports that some of the illegal migrants from neighbouring countries have managed to obtain ration cards, passports and voter identity cards as they mingle easily with the local population due to ethnic and linguistic similarities, the Minister said.
Since the illegal migration takes place clandestinely, the realistic estimate of such migration cannot be determined, he said.
