Kolkata, Mar 20 (UNI) Alleging that there was a ''deep rooted conspiracy'' by national and international reactionary forces to stall Bengal's industrialisation, CPI(M) state Secretary Biman Basu today accused the Opposition of carrying out a disinformation campaign on the Nandigram incident.

''The March 14 incident is ''unfortunate and shocking'', but Opposition parties like Trinamool Congress, Congress and SUCI are trying to create disturbances and mislead the people,'' he said while speaking at a sit-in of the CPI(M) supporters, hounded out of Nandigram following political rivalry.

About 3,000 people were evicted from Nandigram since January last, but nobody had taken any initiative to bring them back to their homes, he said.

A 12-member delegation of the party later met Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi and submitted a deputation.

Mr Basu said Nandigram and its five adjoining areas had been witnesssing lawlessness for the past two-and-a-half months and the Government had called all party meetings several times to restore normalcy, but the Opposition parties refrained from attending it.

'' We have decided in the LF meeting that peace and law should be re-established in Nandigram immediately,'' he said.

Mr Basu said Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee had announced in the Assembly that a judicial inquiry would be conducted into the incidents, but it had to be cancelled following the High Court's directive for CBI inquiry.

'' The state needs industry, development and employment but it would not happen at the cost of agriculture, but industry would happen on the success of agriculture,'' he said.
