Modi dedicate pumping station at Dhanki village

Surendranagar, Mar 20 (UNI) Chief Minister Narendra Modi today called upon the people of Gujarat to show their strength to those ''disrupting elements'', out to denounce the Narmada Project - life line of the state.

Mr Modi challenged the ''Narmada Protectors'' and asked them to stop their anti-national activities, saying ''the people of Gujarat will not spare them as this project has changed the economy of the state.'' Addressing the gathering after dedicating the pumping station on Saurashtra Branch Canal (SBC) of the Sardar Sarovar Project (SSP) to the people of Gujarat at Dhanki village in the district, Mr Modi said that with the completion of world's biggest pumping station here, it has put Saurashtra region on the map of development adding a feather to the cap of vibrant Gujarat.

He said that earlier governments during their 41 years rule only undertook 3,000 km work on Narmada canal while his government has completed the work of 12,000 km within the short span of period as the project has faced lot of hurdles in its work causing delay.

However, he said the Narmada project faced delays in view of many challenges put through by the ''Narmada Andolans'' and had it been completed earlier we could have been more prosperous today.

Chief Minister while explaining the advantage of sweet waters of Narmada said that cultivation and quality of Saurashtra cotton has reached a peak high which is now in great demand internationally including in China.
