Meghalaya to have two Raj Bhawans
Shillong, Mar 20: Meghalaya Chief Minister D D Lapang today informed the Assembly that the government has been trying to garner funds to construct another Raj Bhawan in Tura, West Garo Hills district.
Replying to Pynshai Manik Syiem's(Ind) query during the Question Hour, Mr Lapang clarified that the construction of a Raj Bhawan at Tura did not mean that the state would have another Governor in Tura.
''A Raj Bhawan is necessary in Tura to ensure that the Governor can stay and meet people in Garo Hills,'' the Chief Minister said.
Earlier, Minister in-charge General Administration Department Prestone Tynsong informed the 60-members House that the government could not settle the land acquisition for Raj Bhawan complex at Tura owing to non-availability of fund.
However, he said the government would start constructing the complex once funds were made available.
