LS adjournes a day before schedule, till April 26

New Delhi, Mar 20 (UNI) The Lok Sabha was today adjourned till April 26, a day before schedule amid uproar in the House over Cauvery issue.

Adjourning the House, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee observed that it was unfortunate that no discussion could take place in ''this atmosphere''.

The Cauvery issue raked up in the House at 1600 hrs when the Chair allowed Mr Anant Kumar of the BJP to speak on national assets affecting the lives of citizens of certain states. But as soon as Mr Kumar started speaking on the Cauvery issue it was objected to by members of DMK, MDMK, PMK and Congress members who rushed to the well of the House.

Mr Anant Kumar, however, continued with his submission saying the the award of the Cauvery Tribunal was a ''great injustice'' to the people of Karnataka and therefore, the award could not be implemented. He sought the Centre's intervention in the matter.

The House was first adjourned amid slogan shouting till 1630 hours. When the House reassembled the situation was no different as members of both sides did not pay any heed to the chair to bring about semblance. Mr Chatterjee then adjourned the House till April 26.

Earlier, the House was adjourned till 1600 hrs as the Oppsition protesting against the turning down the notice given by Leader of the Opposition L K Advani for an adjournment motion on Nandigram issue.

The House was scheduled to adjourn from tomorrow for the recess till April 26.
