KMC Deputy Commissioner presents surplus civic budget
Kolhapur, Mar 20 (UNI) Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) Deputy Commissioner Ganesh Deshmukh today presented a surplus Budget of Rs 21,64,117 for the year 2007-2008 with focus on infrastructure development of the city's famous 'Udyamnagar' (industrial belt).
Mr Deshmukh told reporters after presenting the Budget proposals to the KMC Standing Committee the Budget envisages a revenue of Rs 3,54,93,40,917 against an expenditure of Rs 3,54,71,76,800.
City's industrial belt 'Udyamnagar', popular for oil engine and other products is passing through a bad-phase due to lack of modern technology and capital for running the businesses, hence the KMC has proposed in the Budget, development of infrastructure in the industrial belt to attract outside investors with the sole intention to regain its old popularity, Mr Deshmukh pointed out.
The other highlights of the budget include first time project likes integrated development of small and medium town, integrated road development projects, introduction of double entry system accounts reforms, drastic development of two daily markets, besides making pollution free city's famous tourist point Rankala Lake and others, he informed.
As the KMC's main financial resources are Octroi and Property Tax, from which estimated revenue for the year 2007-2008 is Rs 66.62 crore from Octroi, Rs 58.22 crore from House Property Tax, besides Rs 79 crore as government grant and others, he added.
