Key suspect in LTTE ball bearings case surrenders

Chennai, Mar 20 (UNI) A key suspect in the case relating to the seizure of ball bearings meant for supply to the banned LTTE surrendered before a city court this evening.

The suspect, Ramesh Kumar (28), an engineer, had gone underground after Q branch police raided his soap powder company in Perambalur and seized over four tonne ball bearings a few days back.

Two of his accomplices were arrested during the raids and based on their confessional statements, Q branch police launched a massive search.

Ramesh Kumar, hailing from Pudukkottai district, surrendered before Egmore Sixth Metropolitan Magistrate court today. Magistrate Dharman remanded him to judicial custody till April three. He was later lodged in Puzhal Prison.

The Q branch police are expected to move the court either tomorrow or the day after to seek police custody of the accused.
