Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 20 (UNI) The Kerala Government was planning to introduce rules making registration of marriages with local bodies compulsory for all, irrespective of religion or caste in the state, Local Self Government Minister Paloli Mohammed Kutty informed the Assembly today.

The decision was taken based on a Supreme Court order that all the states in the country should bring in a new legislation making registration of marriages compulsory for all sections of community, he said in a written reply.

Mr Mohammad Kutty said the Government had already notified a draft rule in this regard in November last year, as ''Kerala Registration of Marriages (common) Rules'', for eliciting public opinion and suggestions.

After examining the suggestions from the public, it would be presented to the Cabinet for consideration and later it would be notified in the gazette, he added.
