Foundation stone laid for new tourist spot

Agartala, Mar 20: To boost tourism in this tiny North Eastern hilly state, famed for its natural beauty, a foundation stone was laid yesterday at Sabroom sub-division in south district to set up another tourist spot, close to the Chittaong hill tracts of southern Bangladesh.

Forest Minister Jitendra Chowdhury laying the foundation stone for construction of a watch tower and eco-park at Mama Bhagina tilla, about 8 km from Manubazar, said the area had been brought under the environment tourism.

Once the watch tower was constructed it would also help to keep watch on international border with Bangladesh.

The area is endowed with natural beatury and from the watch tower, the Bay of Bengal and the Chittagong port could be seen through binocolours. The area, where the tourist spot would be set up shortly, is within the Tripura Tribal Areas autonomous district council (TTAADC), whose populaltion is five thousand.

The minister said only with the jhum cultivation the financial condition would not improve and hence forests should be saved and its resources utilised to improve the financial condition of the poor.
