'Drunk' pachyderms destroy property

Dumka, Mar 20 (UNI) Forest officials today chased away herds of wild pachyderms who yesterday terrorised villagers and destroyed property after consuming 'desi sharab' (country-made liquor) here.

Such incident had occurren many times before in the region, said the officials today, adding that the aroma of locally-made liqour often made the elephants 'mad' who destroyed anything that came in their way.

Last night, about 16 wild ''inebriated'' pachyderms destroyed about 15 thatched houses in Ramgarh and damaged crops.
