Dandi March route to be declared as Heritage Path
New Delhi, Mar 20 (UNI) The government today said the route of the 'Dandi March', undertaken by Mahatma Gandhi in 1930 to break the repressive Salt Law of the colonial rulers, would be declared as 'Heritage Path'.
In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Tourism and Culture Minister Ambika Soni said on the basis of project proposals submitted by the Gujarat Government, the Centre had sanctioned Rs.380.27 lakh for 'destination development' of Dandi.
In addition, a sum of Rs 50 lakh had been earmarked for a 'Rural Tourism' project of Dandi, she informed.
Ms Soni said development and promotion of tourism was undertaken primarily by the State Governments/UT Administrations.
However, the Tourism Ministry had been extending financial assistance to the State Governments/UT Administrations for tourism-related projects, which were identified in consultation with them every year under the schemes for product/infrastructure development of circuits or destination.
The Minister said execution and implementation of the projects sanctioned by the Ministry of Tourism is the responsibility of the State Government of Gujarat.
''However, Ministry of Tourism regularly monitors the progress of projects through review meetings held from time to time,'' she said.
