Dalit Cong leaders demand Bharat Ratna for Jagjivan Ram

New Delhi, Mar 20 (UNI) A delegation of Scheduled Caste leaders from the Congress today met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and demanded setting up a memorial for former Deputy Prime Minister Jagjivan Ram and conferring him with Bharat Ratna posthumously.

The delegation consisting of Union Ministers Sushil Kumar Shindhe, Mahavir Prasad, K H Muniappa and Kumari Selja and MPs like Nandi Yellaiah and Narasing Suryavamshi were told by PM that the government would consider their suggestions in right spirit.

The leaders also met Congress President Sonia Gandhi to submit their memorandum and reminded her about the approaching centenary celebrations of the former Deputy Prime Minister on April 5.

She also promised to do her best for allotment of separate land grants for the memorial at 6, Krishna Menon Marg as demanded.
