BJP to support TRS in Council elections in AP

Hyderabad, Mar 20 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today announced its decision to support the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in the elections to the Member of Legislative Council(MLC) from the Assembly.

After participating in the ''Panchanga Sravanam'' on the occasion of ''Ugadi'', the Telugu new year day, BJP State President Bandaru Dattatraya told mediapersons that the party would ally with the TRS as its President K Chandrasekhara Rao sought the party's support in the elections.

The party, having two seats in the assembly, has authoritised its floor leader G Kishan Reddy to issue necessary directions to BJP members to vote in the council poll, he said. The party proposed to take action against those who do not vote as per its decision.

Asked whether the BJP would contest 2009 assembly elections in alliance with the TRS, he said the party would do so on its own and separate statehood for Telangana would be its agenda.

The party would agitate for Separate Telangana in accordance with the sentiments of the people of the region, he said.
